We have all had friends and family say to us, “you need to get some sleep.” Our immediate reaction is “who has time to sleep – we are trying to create a business here and we have a million things to do.” As entrepreneurs, it seems like foregoing sleep is not only a necessity but a badge of honor that comes with the title “entrepreneur.”ย Nothing could be further from the truth.
It seems like foregoing sleep is not only a necessity but a badge of honor that comes with the title “entrepreneur.”
We all know that sleep is essential to productivity. And yet as entrepreneurs we accept (and sometimes embrace) that sleep is a novelty reserved for mere mortals. But would you ever hire anyone that said in their interview, “I have a tough time sleeping.” Wouldn’t you say to yourself, if they cannot manage their sleep, what makes me think they will be able to manage the rigors of the day. ย Sleep is like any other skill – product development, marketing, sales – it is a skill that must be developed. Try this – take a quick 30 minute nap in the middle of the day and one day a week get a full eight hours. And soon you will be able to put sleeping on your resume as a skill.
