The Greater Baltimore Maryland area has a new groundbreaking partnership between the United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) and The Lonely Entrepreneur (TLE) to fortify efforts in delivering an even bigger impact on equity, community and environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives for entrepreneurs.

All socio-economic groups have potential, but many lack opportunity. Entrepreneurship is the vehicle where potential can meet opportunity. The United Way’s mission in pursuing a more just, fair, and equitable society supported by The Lonely Entrepreneur’s Learning Community – a one-stop-shop for knowledge, tools and ongoing support every entrepreneur needs exemplifies a partnership that takes aim at economic development and improving community.

The announcement of this powerful partnership between UWCM and TLE will outline how corporations and philanthropies can empower the entrepreneurs of their choice in line with their diversity, equity, community and ESG strategies. This partnership and the forecasted community impacts will be announced at the United Way’s 98th annual Alice Report meeting attended by CEO of The Lonely Entrepreneur, Michael Dermer and CEO of United Way Central Maryland Franklyn Baker who will be giving a prestigious award to the Governor Wes Moore (MD).

Entrepreneur skills are no longer “nice to have.” They are essential to individuals realizing potential, overcoming systemic challenges, and leading more fulfilling lives. The Greater Baltimore area is no stranger to disproportionate small business opportunities. There are only 5% of Black-owned businesses in Balitmore. If Black businesses accounted for 31.5% of employer firms (equivalent to the Black population), there would be 20,910 more Black businesses. There is a tremendous amount of untapped potential with entrepreneurship for corporate and philanthropic partnerships who are focused on economic empowerment.

The Lonely Entrepreneur delivers tools and entrepreneurial expertise to bring further capacity to the United Way of Central Maryland to amplify the power and impact of neighborhood leaders and link them to much-needed resources to bring about real change.
